Anglo-Saxon times see the village of Bingley grow, appearing in the Domesday Book as “Bingheleia”.
King John officially declares Bingley a Market Town; marked by the erection of the Butter Cross and the later Market Hall.
Bingley’s famous Five Rise Locks opens along the first section of the Leeds & Liverpool canal.
Providence Mill becomes Bingley’s first steam powered textile mill; other mills soon follow and the town booms.
Trains begin to arrive at the first Bingley Railway Station. This later station was opened in 1892.
The Bingley Relief Road opens with its bridges forming new town landmarks.
